Marvin Gaye's "What's going on" has always been one of my favorite songs. It especially touches my heart because the lyrics are true and touching even today, more than twenty years after he released it.
A dear friend of mine Ms. Alisa Randolph , who I used to sing back up for, passed away in December 2005 of Breast Cancer. It was her favorite song to perform on stage. I loved to hear her sing it because of the way she would scat through the ending. She called it her "vocalization of the madness". Everytime I hear it, I stop and spend those precious minutes remininiscing about her and feeleing sadness over her wasted talent.
Now I have a new song to listen to. It is my new anthem to sing for those who have passed on due to this terrible disease, Cancer. Not only does it speak for dear Alisa but your beloved mother Beatrice, and so many others. Let everyone who hears it, hear it!
Marian, now that you are finally living the dream that God has for you, remember, don't close your eyes unless you are seeking rest in Him. His peace is in the stillness. Seek the stillness and He will help you through the madness!
